    I put my olive (in a Pot) into a mix of J.Innes No.3 and almost 50% grit as I believe they need very good drainage. Seems okay so far!

    If you are changing the soil no need to be fancy with leaf mould. John Innes 2 or 3 with plenty of grit mixed in to keep the soil free draining.

    Second all that, lay off the leaf mould or any rich potting medium. They do grow in clay soil in some parts of the Med, but usually on steep slopes so they don’t get waterlogged in winter (which they hate) and they bake in summer. In a pot, Lizzie’s mix sounds perfect.

    I use a mixture of peat free compost, well rotted manure and sharp sand, about a third each. Seems to work.
    Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.
