1634 at least your new turf is getting watered!! It was very warm the previous weekend up in the high tenties, too hot to work, had some heavy stuff to do on the veg plot, waited till early evening till the sun had gone from there, saw on Friday mention of SNOW on the South Downs, it was 3d yesterday morning, when I got up and at the weekend, raining, no frost or snow, had to put lots of stuff back in the greenhouses, local shop lady said I should have put i out! But by March the greenhouses are like infernos, you have to ge the stuff out, and then theres the hardeing off, a lot of plants were in the conservatory which although facing north managed to get up to 37s a few days!  You know he old saying n' cast a clout tillo May is out.  I have "friends" who have sown toms, cucumbers in unheated greenhouses houses, wondering why nothing has germinated (thats what window cill seed boxes are for) and one has actually planted cucumbers outside!!

In my neck of the woods it was forecast to drop to 3°c last night, but it actually went down to 2.8°c, so before it got dark I moved all my spuds into the greenhouse and covered with fleece, didn't want to risk an unexpected frost seeing them off.

I think we were pretty close to zero last night. No ice on the bird water but definitely a frost. I fleeced the potatoes (they're in the ground) last evening as the new leaves are just coming up. They do recover, I know (frost in May being pretty normal here) but better not to have to if I can help it. I wouldn't be so incautious as to have seedlings outside yet or for another couple of weeks. I've not yet ventured up to the (unheated) greenhouse this morning. I've got tomato plants in there, but not baby ones. Just have to hope for the best. I've got some more tomatoes on the window sill - intended to grow on outside so sown much later - but they'll stand in for any losses
