Erm....but you have it covered so don’t benefit from the rain? Confused.
There is no way I’d be able to get my husband to do that! Got soil, got grass cuttings.
I have watered it (waste water) and covered now with a square of pond liner, so I’ll see if it stays a bit wetter.
You don't have to get your husband to do it.  Women's pee is just as good.  I keep an old plastic jug and a watering can next to the toilet. I pee in the jug, empty it into the watering can, then take it outside and use it in several ways.  I recommend you read a book called "Liquid gold: the lore and logic of using urine to grow plants".

My wife already thinks I’m mad for taking up gardening, so if I ask her to pee in a cup...

That’s fine but women’s pee is much more acid, ok for me, I like my acid soil, but if you want to keep it alkaline then,,,that’s up to you.

I didn't know that!  I don't think that's mentioned in the book.  I'm on limestone and mad enough to try and grow blueberries and rhododendrons, so I can put that knowledge to good use.

    I doubt that.

I can’t find anything to support that answer.

All urine is usually acidic. I suspect that what you eat and drink has far more effect than your sex. From Wikipedia:

The pH normally is within the range of 5.5 to 7 with an average of 6.2.[3] In persons with hyperuricosuria, acidic urine can contribute to the formation of stonesof uric acid in the kidneys, ureters, or bladder.[7] Urine pH can be monitored by a physician[8] or at home.

A diet which is high in protein from meat and dairy, as well as alcohol consumption can reduce urine pH, whilst potassium and organic acids such as from diets high in fruit and vegetables can increase the pH and make it more alkaline.[3] Some drugs also can increase urine pH, including acetazolamide, potassium citrate, and sodium bicarbonate.[citation needed]

Cranberries, popularly thought to decrease the pH of urine, have actually been shown not to acidify urine.[9] Drugs that can decrease urine pH include ammonium chloride, chlorothiazide diuretics, and methenamine mandelate.[10][11]

I keep the active bay of my compost open, but last year's heap gets covered with a bit of old carpet and left to mature for a year. I always get slow worms under the carpet, and at the moment there's a grass snake there too!
