Date palm - Phoenix

Hi gardeners, got one of these & have just pulled out the new growth from the centre leaving a small amount of water.
Have I over-watered, soil should be grittier, should've 'fleeced' it over winter?
Comments or advice gratefully received. Thanks.

Have a read of this which I just posted for another query - https://www.rhs.org.uk/Plants/12767/i-Phoenix-canariensis-i/Details

Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

  • Just read it, Obelixx, cheers. Very good article.

So, thinking of adding a bit of ericaceous to general purpose compost mixed with some grit. Then 'fleecing' it for winter. Living on the London/Essex border temps don't normally plunge compared to other parts of UK during winter. Thoughts?
