Thanks ' ThanktheCat ' they are really great and make a lovely addition to the garden mixed in with dafs and bluebells, lovely to look at and enjoy.

Sounds like i got the position just right then, they sit beneath some Clematis at the edge of the garden and get dappled sunshine. Brilliant

Apparently the name derives from the snake-like markings on the petals

That and also the fact that they stand up and curl their heads - just like a Cobra and some other snakes. That's my best guess !!!. Glad they don't bite, i'd be going to A & E every day
