Hi
I have 3 large bulbs and need advise on planting them.
Are they ok in a large pot...40 ltr??
Are they ok i half/dappled sun...once over 2 footish tall will be in full sun
How are they against a fence, do they grow in a round or up like a climber??
There doesnt seem to be much info on them on the net or YT.
Thanks

    Hello Rich B
Crinum x powellii is a S.African species known there as the Swamp Lily ; however , don't confuse conditions there with our cold and damp winters .

They appreciate generous feeding (low-nitrogen) , full sunshine to lightly dappled shade and a warm position . They are quite hardy , and many people around here (E.Lincs) have them throughout the year in their gardens .

Yours will be fine in a large pot , they are tolerant of a bit of neglect ; flower stems in late summer to around 2' high ; pink/white !  Very nice too!!!!

OK so i will go ahead with all 3 positions. I may get rid of the horrid budliha that shades them tomorrow so 1 and other plants is in full sun. my garden is mostly south facing and i live in sunny Deal so i think they will be OK. as long as 1 is ok in a pot..

I bought 7 of these in a recent plant fair here and plan to grow them in the ground in full sun but frosts here are a lot less severe and of short duration.  In the UK, I'd grow them in pots in order to take them into frost free shelter.   This is what the RHS has to say - https://www.rhs.org.uk/Plants/90456/Crinum-x-powellii/Details

And ignore what MD said last week " the flowers can be up to 6ft tall", they don't.
