Hydrangea Leaf Edging

Hi I purchased around 4 weeks ago 2 of the variegated hydrangea, one of them has developed this odd yellow edge its appears to be part of the leaf? Is this normal?

    My thought is that variegations are mutations, and presumably not that stable, so sometimes the mutations mutate?

    Hopefully someone has a more scientific way of explaining it .......  :)
