Purple opal vs little black prince...

Hey folks! I'm planning a fruiting 'hedge' of dwarf blackberries and raspberries, and wondered if anyone had a POV on which of the two dwarf blackberry varieties might be better?

Other dwarf berry recommendations also welcome :)

Why do you want dwarf varieties?  Are you limited on space/height?

I am in the area with decent sun. It's bang in the middle of the garden so having 2m canes sticking up looks a bit silly. Also hoping to net then more easily - last year's crop from my big canes was ruined by the new drosophila critters.

True.  You had trouble with fruit flies?  I can't imagine successful netting them out in such a way that still allows the plant ample air and light.  How do you plan to do it?

Rhs suggests a <1mm mesh, so i'm thinking aa ver fine net ( not sure whether a gardening specific one or some synthetic tulle) once the fruit starts to form. It's spotted wing drosophila, which are a relatively new uk pest but a total pain - larvae in all our berries last year. Will probably get some traps, too.
  • Rose121, which dwarf blackberry did you go with? Do you have an opinion of which dwarfing blackberry to go with?
