Does anyone know what this is?

I live on the island of Cyprus and this was brought to our gardeners’ club to mystify us. We don’t know if it came from a tree or a bush; it could, I suppose, be a climber! There are black seeds inside which we intend to germinate. It is slightly squashy, like a hard tomato. Any ideas, anyone?
