Spring Identification

john1072john1072 Posts: 34
Hi,

I wonder if somebody could be so kind as to tell me what the following plants/weeds are?

Picture 1 - maybe Cleavers - how did I get rid of them?
Picture 2 - stunning - is this an ornamental cherry?
Picture 3 - Is this a weed? Geranium Robert?
Picture 4 - What is this weed, it's deep rooting and just keeps coming back?

Many thanks, John.

No.1 is cleavers, wear gloves when you're pulling/digging it out. It can be a skin irritant.

No.3 is a dicentra (spelling?) common name 'bleeding heart'.

    1. Goosegrass, cleavers. I just keep pulling them up, there comes a time when their growing season is over.
    2. I think it could be a crab apple.
    3. Dicentra spectabilis, now called Lamprocapnos spectabilis (why did they have to change it, too long!) It's a lovely spring to early summer flowering plant that dies down completely in summer, not a weed.
    4 Don't know.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Wow lucky I didn't pull out 3 and asked the question.

    Thank you.

They can change the name @Busy-Lizzie, but I shan't be changing to Lamwhatsit. Wasn't even sure I'd spelt dicentra right 😲.

Why, why why do they do it? 😠
    And who are they?

Kitty2 I prefer your Lamwhatsit, I'll be calling it that from now on!  Agree with id's, cleavers (easy to pull out but get the little root bit), crab apple or cherry and yes, beautiful, Dicentra (not a weed) but I don't know the last one, it looks like a weed so if it was in my garden I'd dig it out, but you could wait and see?

Thanks, it's definitely a weed. Not prolific in spreading just hard to get rid of.

No 4 is Green Alkanet, Pentaglottis sempervirens. Seeds itself profusely and has taproots that are difficult to get rid of. Pretty though.

Thanks, that's right it does have a blue flower. Appreciate the response.
