Charadrii, we have a community garden close by (very well managed) primarily aimed at children. It has a lovely common lime tree (native-ish) which has been hard pollarded. The resulting long shoots have been pegged around the tree to make a kind of weeping tree / den-like structure. It's very strong, effective and fun, a bit like a live willow den. But a longer project, probably, than bamboo or hazel and doesn't need damp like willow.
I love a bit of bamboo and have a smaller one that is doing well near by so that might work.
Hazel doesn't like it there unfortunately, one we planted 4 years ago has just made it to about 2 foot high (although it is still alive!), so might be more of a long term project.. and yes I think too dry for Willow (was considering that further from the sycamore, but then it would be near the house and I'm not sure that is a good idea either..)
