my uncinia grass  has gone  very pale  and dry it is not red anymore i have one in the sun and one in the sun and shade all growing in the same soil they have not been over watered or under watered do you think they are dead many thanks

    Without a photo, it's hard to make a proper judgement. I expect it's the old stems/foliage which are just weather worn after the winter. Mine looks pretty poor.
    There should be new fresh growth appearing as the soil warms up. If there still isn't any appearing in another month, it may be a gonner, but I think that's unlikely - they're pretty tough   :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Fairygirl is right.  Ours look very dried and dead, but the new growth is coming through, both the ones in the pots, and in the ground.  We divide them every few years, and that helps to invigorate them.  If yours are mature clumps, perhaps worth dividing now to see if that helps.
