I used to love my aquilegias which self-seeded every year filling the gap nicely between tulips/forget-me-nots and roses, until nearly five years ago when I first noticed the diseased plants and eventually had to dig them out in all parts of the garden. I too exchanged emails with Carrie about it at the time. However, this year I have two big healthy plants with buds which just appeared - I certainly didn't plant them. Keeping my fingers crossed they survive.
Thanks Perki, but I think I'd better take Dove's advice (and that of the RHS) and rest the ground of aquilegias for a year or two before trying again. Jemula, your story gives me some hope - thank you!
