Another Dead or Alive. Salvia Nemorosa 'Caradonna'

CraighBCraighB Posts: 758
Hi guys,

Not having much luck this year with plants getting going. It's Nearly May and my Salvia Nemorosa Caradonna seems to have failed to sprung into action. You can see from the photo that the crown is in the middle and there are no shoots coming from anywhere near it.

The only shoot there is a few cm away and I don't even know if it's part of the same plant :/ I have tried to dig around it carefully for signs of life but nothing. The crown feels solid and not soggy so I don't know? Does that shoot look like Salvia Nemorosa?

Thanks
Craigh

I brought some Salvia Caradonna this year in 1 lire pots. Planted them out in Feburuary but with the server frost we expereinced over 4 weeks ago, I dug them up and placed them back in my greenhouse for protection. They are one of the hardiest salvias but a heavy frost on any young plants could stunts there growth. They are now planted out and growing well
Were yours only young plants ?

I think they are a bit later this year due to the cold snap last month, wait a bit longer I’ve only just found my salvia shoots buy poking down in the soil.

They were young ish but a decent size still Steve.

See I dug down into the soil a little too but found nothing at all. So I will give it a while longer and then see.

Does that shoot look like the one that should be coming from the plant or is it too hard to tell?

    Hi Craigh
I have a few perennial salvias and non, apart from Caradonna are showing signs of life. As Lyn has stated, the extreme cold weather about 4 weeks ago, will possibly delay growth for this year. They are basically summer perennials so might be a bit late

    Hi Craigh
From the photo it's hard to tell. Caradonna has quite lush folliage when in flower. I would say if you don't see any definate shoots of recovery by end of May then that would be concerning imo
