Is this the verbena that I planted last year?

B3B3 Posts: 27,505
I planted  a verbena  in this container last year.  I think it was white  and it did well.
I've noticed, today, that the leaves have the unpleasant smell of woundwort.
Is this my verbena or an impostor?

I don't think it is verbena bonariensis. ....mine, which was planted last year.   The leaves are very different from yours

Looks more like one of the lamiums to me ...  and woundwort is a lamiaceae ... :/

I bought it as a 'trailing verbena'. I just googled trailing vb and mine had looked like that. The others I bought definitely look the worse for wear now.
The suspect looks suspiciously healthy and vigorous for it not to be a 'ringer'.  >:) I think you're right dove.
    Mary, thanks for the pic.

@Mary370 That looks very healthy! I planted three last year, and I think I've lost them all... Did you just leave them in situ over winter? Any tips?

@Janie B thanks.   I was very surprised that it survived the winter. .....it was given to me as a large plant in a big pot late last summer. ....the only one I have.   I left it in the ground with a bark mulch around it and cut it to almost ground level in March.  It is in a very sunny part of the garden if that's any help to you.

Thanks... maybe mine was too small to survive, or maybe it was in too much shade, or maybe the soil wasn't good enough or maybe I didn't mulch it, or maybe .... who bloomin' knows with gardening?

My VB  are tough as old boots and self-seed prolifically, but only ever in the sunny side of the garden - never in the shade. It even grows up between paving slabs, so poor soil isn't an issue. Try sewing a few seeds in a sunny spot @Janie B
