Rhododendron problems

I'm new to gardening an bought a Rhododendron last year. Its been put into the correct compost and been fed with ericaceous plant food but its looking an a bad state.
Does anyone have any ideas what the issue could be? From the picture it looks like it wont survice for long.

    Looks like it’s dried out, is that a clay pot, they absorb the water and the plant stays dry.  can you put it in the open ground. It’s a big plant for a pot.
    could be vine weevils in the pot,

    Thanks all for the replies. It is a clay pot and it seems to be constantly dry. No matter how much water I give it. 
    Plan for tomorrow is to re-pot it with new soil, another soaking in a bucket before planting it and then keeping my fingers crossed.
