What does Coreopsis like best?

Evenin' all,
I'm going to be putting in coreopsis for the first time this year. When I check various growers' websites, some say that the plants like 'fertile soil'. Some say they like 'poor soil' / sandy. All say full sun is best. I am hoping for shortish bushy growth (rather than tall/ lanky). In your experience what is the best way to pamper your tickseed? Thanks

Mine grow fine in sandy soil, part sun.  I do find deadheading really extends the blooming season.. but it feels so short in comparison to the Rudbeckia Goldsturm planted around them.

What kind did you buy?  I'm thinking of picking up some
Coreopsis verticillata 'Moonbeam', as at least the foliage is visually interesting when the plant isn't in bloom.
