It's all a learning curve rodders - and we've all been there at some point. Growing for your own conditions and climate is something that you learn as you go along. It can be expensive when you get it wrong though!
Re your heucheras - they're incredibly easy to propagate, so once your goodones are growing away, you'll be able to pull little bits off and pot them up in small pots to grow on. Keep them somewhere with a bit of shade and don't let then get dried out too much. It'll increase your stock of them quickly, and they're very handy for ground cover in awkward shady bits

I did take some cuttings of the Coreopsis last year, planted them out, but they look dead too.
