Algae on fence

need to re-stain the fence but it has patches of “green stuff” which repel the stain. It’s flat so it’s not moss or lichen, so I’m assuming it’s some sort of algae.

can anyone suggest how I can remove it as easily and quickly as possible please ?

thanks as always.

Spray with one of the many algae / moss remover products on the market and leave. Alternatively you can scrub with warm water or use a pressure washer. Be careful with a pressure washer however as a high PSI can damage the wood.

Wet it first, it then comes off much more easily. Everything that stands still long enough gets covered in it here!

I'm facing the same task with my front fence. I will be interested to see how you get on and what you use.

  • Is pressure spray or algae product better? Does pressure spray really get rid of lurking spores? Is anti fungal algae stuff better for deterring regrowth?
