Bidens

I was thinking of planting a Bidens ferulifolia in a pot with a Dahlia Bishop of Llandaff.  Would the bidens be to wide for a pot and would the combination work together?

    In my (humble) experience bidens have few roots and can go with anything, but I suppose the pot is deep enough for the dahlia?

    Hi GD I grew several bidens in pots last year.
    They performed well in both big and small pots and flowered their socks off all summer. But did get blackfly toward the end of the season.

    I tried Bidens in baskets for the first time a couple of years ago and loved them. Nice fine foliage so wouldn't swamp the Bishop. I would choose a Bidens with some red in it; maybe Beedance or similar. That would make a stunning combination. The bees love it too.

    Thanks everyone - Bidens is a new plant for me - my husband got two at the little garden shop yesterday and I really wasn't sure what to do with them.  I have some pots with dahlia tubers which are just beginning to show some growth, so I will try to pop these Bidens in with them.  The Bidens are already in flower, I think I will nip the flowers off, so they don't finish before the dahlias have got any flowers opening.

    Mine didn't finish until the frosts last year
    In London. Keen but lazy.

    It is approx. 8 weeks since we got these little bidden plants and they are doing very well, having spread out but kept compact too, there are plenty of flowers and buds so I can see that they will last a long time. Worth the couple of pounds each.
