Early strawberries in the North West Cheshire

I went out this afternoon to check on which of last years strawberry runners growing up in my garden would be good to move to my allotment this week. I was quite surprised that one of the plants not only put on a few leaves but also trying to push out a few fruit. The weather here has been rubbish and I've ignored the plants so why would just one runner push out so many flowers so early?  Confused I am.
