Hi bridgnorthpaggers. It looks like Rhus typhina to me - the Stag's Horn Sumach and yes, it does sucker all over the place.

I second that.  I have it in my yard.. and it suckers like crazy.  It has the most beautiful fall colors.  Just cut off the suckers as they appear.  Or dig them up and pass them on to friends and family.   :)

Are you talking about removing it entirely or just keeping it under control? If its just a control thing then Blue Onion's suggestion is perfect. I guess Blue Onion that you are from across the pond? Utah USA - what a twit I am! Its written there for all to see. Sorry Blue Onion - I'm not concentrating

Yep. I'm 'Merican.  I'm married to a Brit, and spent six years gardening in London and then Dorking, Surrey.  We had our first son, then moved to Utah.  I'm originally from Pennsylvania, so the arid high-altitude alkaline desert of Utah is a gardening adjustment.   :#

  • It's in a clients garden, she has young kids so we'll under control I guess.

A whole new set of challenges to wrestle with Blue Onion. Nice to meet you.
Apologies bridgnorthpaggers - I'm talking too much on your Discussion. I'll shut up now

  • No, not at all. I'm three quarters through a deploma in garden design and maintenance which is very interesting. I'm also a self employed gardener which is great fun. Lots to learn... But getting there slowly.

Well done you bridgnorthpaggers. One sentence of advice - know your plants, know your soils and never be afraid to find a source like this forum to ask if you aren't sure.
