Non-Bearing pear tree

I planted a pear tree about 4 years back that I purchased from Calloway Nursery. However, the plants seems to be very healthy, but bearing no fruits. Is it because it needs pollination (i.e. it needs another pear tree to bear fruits ???). I don't know what variety is this tree, but I can attach a pic of the pear tree.

Some/most pear trees need a pollinator growing nearby ... but four years old is quite young for a pear tree to be producing ... not sure that we could ID a pear without seeing it's fruit (and even then we might struggle, there are quite a few), but maybe Calloway Nursery have a record ... it'd be worth contacting them.

Yes, most do need a pollinator.  Do find out what variety you have.. and find out what flowers at the same time.  I made the junior mistake of ordering two different pear trees, as I knew they need a pollinator.. but never took into account the flowering period!  One blooms beautifully.. and about the time that finishes flowering the other begins to bloom.. with never a bee between them!

That's large for a four/five year old tree ... it's obviously not on a dwarfing rootstock so it could well take several more years to become mature enough to fruit ... before dwarfing rootstocks were introduced they used to say 'you plant pears for your heirs', meaning you can wait a lifetime to get fruit.

I think you need to find out what it is ... it would be a shame to wait until it produces blossom, only to find out that it needs a compatible partner and then you'd have to wait for the partner to become big enough to produce blossom.

I'd contact the nursery and see if they have a record of your order.

I contacted Calloways with pics of my tree, and they suggested its impossible to tell the variety by just looking at the pics. However, they recommended to get an additional pear tree variety from Zone 1 or Zone 2 suitable for DFW area I live in.
  • Your pear tree seems to be putting all its energy into producing leaves. Are you feeding it lots of nitrogen fertiliser?
Mine has flower buds long before the leaves open. This variety is invincible which is a regular cropper and seems reluctant to throw out new shoots.

I was at Calloways last weekend, and talking to them, they indicated that right now they don't see the issue to be pollination as the tree doesn't even have any flower buds to begin with. They suggested to put another pear variety if the tree has flowers, but not leading to fruits in the end. So, the main issue at this point is the tree not showing any signs of flowers. Don't know if its too early to start bearing fruits for 4-5 year old tree.

BTW, what pear variety the above picture showing lots of flower buds ?
