Lithodora - planting advice.

soulboysoulboy Posts: 429
Hi, I help a neighbour with her garden and she recently bought a small lithodora for me to put in one of her borders. Having googled cultivation advice I would now like to have some advice from those on the forum that have experience with this plant.

The soil she has is clay, though not very heavy, dense clay. Some of the advice I've read suggests adding some sharp sand and compost before planting and watering with a vinegar solution of two tablespoons to 4.5L of water.

The other, easier solution suggested is to create a area for the plant with an eiricaceous compost.

I would really appreciate people's input as to creating the best growing conditions for the plant. I think it's the blue star variety.

    Hi
I have Lithodora Blue Heaven in my garden. It prefers a shady aspect and are planted in neutral, fertile, well drained soil. They were planted about 12 months and have grown quite vigorous. They will grow in acidic soil but as far as I know will be happy to grow in neutral soil.
Personally, I wouldn't add any vinegar solution to the plant
  • They don't require ericaceous soil but I would add something to improve drainage if you're putting it in the ground.

soulboy, that's good advice from the above; if you need more , go back to April 17 on the forum and find 'Lithodora care' .

Thanks everyone for your advice. I planted it yesterday evening ensuring it has good drainage. Also, thanks Paul, I did see that Lithodora post, which prompted me to ask my question.
