I planted a laurel hedge a couple of years ago. They were about 2 feet tall. One half of the hedge is flourishing with dark green leaves. The other half struggles to grow and the leaves are a pale green. Any ideas?
Check the soil on the left side. On looking at the picture, on first impressions, the left side of the lawn appears to be more pale looking. There is possible moss too. That is usually an indication of damp or heavy/compacted soil. Sometimes, Cherry Laurels establish slower in excess wet soils. That can cause yellowing of leaves as the roots fail to pick up nutrients.
If that is the case, you might need to dig in drainage holes around the base of the shrubs in that area and work in new layers of compost and grit. Feed the areas afterwards.
