I've put my first Dahlia's ever in last weekend. Showing sprouts already. Guess this warm weather has helped, plus they had little sprouts on them already, before planting. Always been meaning to grow some.
I buy garden news (weekly) 2 weeks ago the Dahlia expert said exclude all light, because they start shooting from below ground, thats what I have done,( week to 10 days,) I covered the pots with plant saucers, they are a few inches high, outside now in the day. He said if that doesnt work, stick a knife into the rhyzomes, or pour water on them as hot as your hand can bear.
Looks like 4 of my 6 are growing, do you think the others will grow, or judging by the size of the current ones, the others don't have a chance? Should be two where the red circles are. I put some anemone bulbs in too, they don't look too great either.
Since putting my dahlia tubers in the bakery tray they have all produced strong healthy growth so it looks as if I will have a decent show of flowers this year. They have been outside since I boxed them up and are ready for planting out properly. I grew them on large containers last year due to lack of cultivated space, looks like I shall have to do the same again.

The tubers are also too close together.
