If the ants in my compost bin are okay being there what about when they get spread over my veg able beds,will they attack the plant roots?

    Ants don't eat plant roots - but they can make a mess of the soil in which they build a nest, by making tunnels.  They dislike damp soil though, so provided you don't let your veg beds dry out, you should be fine.  I'd guess your compost bin has a lid, keeping it fairly dry, which is why the ants have set up home there.  You could water your compost from time to time, and turn it, which will discourage them if you'd rather they went elsewhere.

    I agree: Ants in your compost bins indicates they're too dry.
