Carnation cuttings

I took side shoot cuttings from a bunch of carnations earlier in the year. They have rooted well and I have just potted them on individually... can anyone tell me if I can expect to get flowers on the plants this summer?

Probably if they are grown in a greenhouse. Most of the commercial ones are perpetual carnations grown in hothouses.

Hi, thank you... I was planning to plant them outside in my borders...

You can grow them outside, but not all Carnations are hardy to grow outdoors all year round. The most reliable ones are the 'Pinks' which you should be able to tell as they tend to be shorter, many have a fragrance, and the stems are more grey tone rather than green/blue.

I’m glad to report that the carnation cuttings I took (from a mothers’ day 2018 Bouquet) are still flowering in January 2019!
