Vine Weevil Killer

We discovered vine weevil bugs yesterday in the potted Apple tree. 

Our Red Robin leaves have jagged edges where something has munched them but this has been happening over winter. Is this likely to be vine weevil? 

I ordered some nematodes but my husband used insecticide on the red robins and a blueberry bush and mint trough! Does this make them inedible and for how long?  I am trying to go chemical free so am slightly annoyed.

    I can't find out for how long we can't eat from the plants. My bay tree too.

    Do you mind if I asked what he used and if it was effective? I have found some vine weevil in the rootball of my pot plants and want to eradicate these soon as possible. Thanks

    If it was Provado vine weevil you used, you can’t ever use it on edibles, there’s not a time scale. It’s never.

    The  best thing to do is to empty your pots with the edibles, dispose of the contaminated compost, wash the roots thoroughly, then replant in fresh compost. The plants should be fine after say a couple of months, after rainwater has washed through them a few times.

    It was Bug Clear.  It was done today.

    I am thinking of throwing away the blueberry and mints because I'm worried for the bees taking the pollen or in case someone eats them.

    If it was Bug Clear, what does it say in the instructions? Contact the manufacturer or ask at the GC before disposing of the blueberry - they're too expensive to just throw away. I wouldn't worry too much about the bees. the mints could be chucked if you really want to as they're cheapish.

    Thankyou. I contacted the manufacturer. They said it isn't tested on edibles and to disregard this year's crop but eat next year's. 

    Regard the weevil,  I wonder if they are responsible for the no shows from my bed planted sedum ice plants and Solomon's seal. Going to have a dig around tomorrow.

    Could well be, May, I think both of those plants are favourite food, although I believe that vine weevils have more predators in the ground. My Soloman's Seal has started to grow here.
