Removing yukka

  • Here is a picture of the tree. It has the helicopter shaped seeds but I’ve not experienced any issues with seedlings to date. Something to watch out for! I’ve not noticed any stick black substance though. I’m guessing it is fairly young.

It was planted by the builder I think. Our house is only ten years old. It does seem to be an odd choice for a fairly small garden though. It is in our deeds that we aren’t to remove it. The previous occupants have planted some monsters including 4 Italian cypress trees!
I'd be more than surprised if a tree that age has a TPO on it. New builds often come with certain conditions i.e. for instance on the new build site I once lived at you weren't meant to have sign-written vans on the estate! You can imagine that was never enforced. I expect the planting scheme was a requirement of the planners who will long since have lost interest in the site.

Aye I had that. Planting plans are just vital at build time, but planners have no interest when something completely different gets done. I would double check it is a sycamore (sorry I can’t tell from pic), go find a mature specimen in a park and then you’ll see what you are in for. If you aren’t intending to stay long though, it will be someone else’s problem.
  • I have a tree surgeon coming to chop something else for me (too tall) so I’ll ask him. I’ve never minded the tree personally. Didn’t realise what it will grow into though!
