Plant ID, weed or flower?!

Hi all,
We dug a load of these up today from my parents garden.does anybody know if they are a plant or weed?

Aquilegia I think. The wild form does seed around and some consider it a weed.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

You are lucky. I lost all mine to mildew a few years ago. It was a new strain which also wiped out the National Collection of Aquilegias.

Looks like an aquilegia to me. I like them and let them seed around.

It could also be a Thalictrum aquilegifolium. Notice the similarity in the name.

Although similar to Thalictrum, the Aquilegia leaves are thicker and bigger.

That being the case the answer is 'yes'. It's a pretty flower and it self seeds so it can be a weed.
