I need some plant ideas please

Hi everyone hope you're all well?

I have some small pots that hang on the top of the fence and was just wondering what sort of plants/flowers would be best for them? They're only 5" diameter pots so I'm not sure if many plants would do well in them? I would prefer insect friendly flowers if possible but I'll settle for anything that looks nice! Oh and they will be on the fence in between our house and the neighbours so they will probably get 2 or 3 hours max direct sunlight in the height of summer.

Any help is appreciated!

I have used diascias in this sort of situation and they looked wonderful.
Fuchsias will tolerate limited light, as will lobelia.

As long as you keep up with the watering most plants would be ok.

Thanks for the suggestions! I’m trying to grow some lavender this year from seed but I might have to invest in a potted plant so I can enjoy it over the summer. I’ll look at some of the seedlings I have and see which prefer partial shade since I should be okay planting most plants in them. If I have time I’ll have to nip to the garden centre and have a look around before I decide! Thanks again everyone.

Maybe some could be trailing plants - there are trailing varieties of bedding plants widely available soon in Garden Centres. Begonia, Geraniums and Fuschias would be ok in a shady spot.

They look and sound good I’ll add them to my list and see what I decide on, thanks for the suggestion Ian!

Begonias - the big-flowered varieties  are available as semi-trailers.  My favourites.  Just keep them well fed and they will bloom into Oct.
