feeding tubers

deswalshdeswalsh Posts: 43
I have some begonia tubers which are indoors and have just started to produce leaves-I wondered if a tomato feed would now be a good idea.
I am about to pot up some dahlia tubers and likewise wondered if a tomato fed could be applied straight away.

I wouldn't feed until they start to flower. For both begonias and dahlias. Otherwise they will just produce lots of leaves.

Tomato feed would be excellent for them. it is suitable for most flowering plants.

    Don't feed them so early.
I would not feed, until they are well developed plants.

No, not two opposing views .....  you've received advice not to feed just yet ... which I agree with.

You've also been advised that when it is time to feed, tomato feed will be excellent, which I also agree with.

I wouldn't feed them until they are flowering. Tubers and corms have enough nutrients to get them going.

     DearDovefromabove,
I was meaning opposing views re the timing as I took Kate 7s view to imply it would be ok to feed now-on reflection however, maybe by'flowering plant' she means once the actual flowers have arrived as opposed to the type of plant-an easy mistake-if it was one,for a beginner to make.

The main thing with keeping begonias flowering well is to pick off the females before they get a chance to grow.
