Does any-body know how to get rid of ivy for good ?

Help, I live in Ireland, half-way up a mountain, so the grass is not much, but the ivy is taking over every-thing, l have tried White vineger, boiling water, l try not to use chemicals, but this is my last resort. Any-body !! HELP..
