Cercis forest pansy

Hi i recently planted a cercis forest pansy tree about 2 weeks ago .I noticed this afternoon that one of the brarches appears to be dying ie about 2 inches at the tip turning whitish , and there doesn't  seem to be any buds on the other branches . Any ideas please

I have read somewhere, they are quite late to wake up in spring. Often no sign to almost May. Was it a bare rooted or pot grown plant?
  • Hi borderline it was pot grown I got it from paramount plants who are normally very good .

Dennis Dobson, I would wait and not try to prune anything yet. Make sure the tree is watered even if it's quite chilly right now. Helps to bond the surrounding soil with the rootball. Pile on more mulch now if you haven't done so. Keep check for the area that is looking like it's dying back. Take photos to record any changes. You may need to contact Paramount should there be an issue further down the line.
  • Cheers borderline will do as you say thanks for your input

Hi, I am new here.  Unfortunately I gave up on my two Cercis, both had a problem of needing support as they grew, eventually split down the middle and died.  My neighbour had exactly the same problem, persevered longer than me supporting the branches with Y shaped structures but in the end the succumbed.  I have heard they self prune but mine didn't, maybe that is what yours is doing.  Anyway hope it is Ok and perhaps look at pruning if branches look too heavy to support themselves, wish I had know I culd do that but did not want to harm the tree.
