Shrub ideas for chicken wire fence
in Plants
Hi, looking for some help please. We have a gap along a metal chicken wire fence between us and our neighbours and would like to put some shrubs in to give us some privacy. We don't want anything that grows too big but something that will give us some colour or colour & flowers and doesn't require too much pruning etc., The spot gets both sunshine and shade during the day. Many thanks.

You could try a Class 3 viticella clematis which would twine along the fence, but can be pruned right down in the late winter. Polish Spirit is a lovely very vigorous purple flowered variety. The evergreen clematis "Freckles" is also good, flowering in the winter.
Another choice might be an evergreen honeysuckle. You probably need a plant which will weave along the fence but won't encroach too much on the neighbours side. Another idea might be to fix a bamboo/willow/brushwood screen to the wire fence and then you could plant other small bushes in front of it.
I also thought of a climbing fuchsia, if that's your thing. Full on colour from June to the first frost.
