DIY propagator with LED lights and fan

Been fiddling over winter with an old plung bench, with some soil warming cables in its base, which I used to sling some fleece over so it doubled as a propagation area.

Made a frame out of some aluminium strips, attached some correx sheets and screwed 18 E27 lamp sockets to 6 planks of wood for the LED grow lights

Three up and over correx doors secured with duct tape and 14W fan complete the project

Lots of success with early sown seeds. These primulas have been in for 10 weeks, 26 out of the 32 varieties that were planted have sprouted.

Very impressive but where are the little plantlets going to go now? And what on earth are you going to do with them all?

  • The trays have 576 cells. Each row of 18 cells is a different primula packet, this year from the Scottish Rock Garden Club's seed exchange plus a few from HPS seed exchange. Each plug will go into its own pot to grow on before planting out into my garden. Others get exchanged with friends. They over-winter well in pots and they are kept on staging and come next spring I will be raising some funds with a plant sale at my local hospital.
