Potato Forks

Hello all

As I planted out my early potatoes a week or so ago, I remembered the problems I had with spearing some of the potatoes when I harvested them last year.  Not many, but enough to be annoyed!

It got me thinking what I could spend my birthday money on - a potato fork. This would end all the spearing and I would be able to harvest and store my lovely unspeared potatoes.

Or would it?  I saw two different styles when I carried out my research - 9 pronged with bobbles and 5 pronged but flattened and blunt.  Feeling confused, I thought I would ask the lovely gardeners on the Forum their opinion.

Should I stick with my normal fork and be extra careful, or go for one with bobbles or one with flattened prongs?  Any particular makes that would be best?

Please help me decide! Thank you  :)

I have a potato fork. It was given to me in 1987 by a 72 year old gardener who assured me it was "over 50 years old"
I use it just as a garden fork, not just for potatoes.
