GREENHOUSE HEATERS

I have just recently purchased a greenhouse size 8' x 8' and would like some advice on the best cost effective way of heating it. Any iadvice would be much appreciated.

It very much depends on what you are planning to grow in there when the temps are low.
    Different plants have different requirements.
I just use a heated propagator and a covered heat mat in my unheated greenhouse which caters for most plants raised from seed until spring temps rise.
The cheapest is probably paraffin (but you'll be doing regular wick trimming and they do create a lot of moisture) and the best and most expensive will be a thermostatically controlled greenhouse heater probably £150-200
What are you going to grow?

My little electric fan heater keeps my 12x8 greenhouse frost free and didn't cost anything like that much! About £25 to £30 pounds if I recall. It can be set higher if need be, sometimes useful in a cold spring to get more tender things going, but mostly only turn it up if I am working in there on a chilly day!

An electric fan heater on a separate plug in thermostat. You set the plug in to the minimum temperature you want, and set the fan heater on both fans and maximum.
Make sure your electricity supply to the greenhouse is properly installed, and outdoor sockets used.
  • Thank you all for your help and advice. I think the first thing on the agenda will be to install electricity and then take it from there. Many thanks all.
