New pond plants

I had some new plants delivered last week.  They are ranunculus aquatillis and Lythrum salicaria plug plants and are so tiny - the lythrum are just one or two inches in size with barely any root.  I decided to pot them all into 3" pots, stand the pots in an old washing up bowl and leave them in our cold greenhouse until they have rooted successfully before putting them into pond baskets ready to go into the pond.  Have I done the right thing?  They looked far too feeble to go directly into the pond baskets to be immersed into the pond.

  • I must say I was very disappointed with their size and fragility - let me know if you are pleased with yours when they arrive Redwing - thanks both.

My plants arrived today. Here are two pictures.  They are much bigger than 2" and I'm quite pleased.  The biggest are 6-7".  They will spend the night in the sink and I will pot up tomorrow and place in the pond. This lot cost just less than £25 inc postage and I bought from an ebay seller. • They do look good - far superior to mine Redwing - I will certainly take a look and hope that they post to Gsy as many don't but hear's hoping.

All potted up and placed in the pond, 8 medium sized pots of 6 species of plants recommended for wildlife ponds .....now just waiting for them to grow.

  • I did look at the ebay site Redwing, but they didn't appear to have any floating plants which is what I want - though they did have plenty of marginals - they certainly looked good.  I am desperate for floaters - we have 3 lilies that are sending their leaves up to the surface but would like more - duckweed and any others we can get out hands on.
