Pruning wild honeysuckle

I've read differing advice on when to cut my monster plant. Some say after flowering others say in the spring. Mine needs quite a lot taken off to make it tidy, maybe into the bare stems. Is this a good time now? I understand I might be flowerless this year.

I would do it after flowering ... there was a wonderful mixed 'hedge' of wild honeysuckle alongside a cottage garden in the village where I grew up.  Every year as I walked to school I marvelled at how the chap who lived there cut the honeysuckle really hard back ... clipped it into a neat hedge shape ... as soon as the flowers began to fade, and yet every  following year it was smothered with flowers again.  One of the things I first noticed about gardening  :)

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
