Biodegradable Plant Pots

I have been busy today making biodegradable plant pots from newspaper. Cheap & easy to do. A good alternative to plastic pots.

Have you got a Potter, I have one somewhere, I’d forgotten about it until I saw yours, must find it 🙂

Can't see the pics but well done anyway.   No newspapers available here but I use loo roll tubes and coir degradable pots and I re-use plastic cell trays until they shatter.

Obelixx - Did you click on the name of the file?  Not the picture itself.  (I had trouble at first too).  It pops up in a new tab, so perhaps you have a pop-up blocker on?

    Paula-
Have you used newspaper pots before?  I find the roots have trouble growing out, and usually end up pulling off all the paper prior to planting out.  Newspaper goes on the compost, so no real waste.. but the past few years I've stuck with reusing small yogurt containers from my son's lunch box.

I know it's controversial, but good quality plastic pots will last for many years, probably longer than crock ones as plastic bounces and crock doesn't.  It's the cheapo ones that are used once and then only fit for the bin which cause the problems.

Yes - loads of plastic pots from buying plants and ready for re-use, time and again.   Getting hard to find decent quality plastic cell trays so I'm moving to coir when I can find it.  Still a lot of peat pots here.

No - Blue Onion, I’ve never used newspaper pots before. I could always remove the bottom of the pot carefully, making sure not to damage the roots, before planting out in the garden.

I don’t have any newspapers so i buy paper pots at the end of the season sales. Places like wilko, Tesco and Asda sell them off for 25p a pack. I always buy enough for the next seasons seedlings. I also reuse plastic pots from purchases. Carefully looked after you can get several more years use out of them. The very flimsy ones I use for plants I am giving away.
i am also always on the look out for cheap clay pots. Last year I bought quite a few from wilko end of season sale again when they were 25p each.
I stock pile when I see garden bits going cheap as If you buy now everything is full price so a lot more expensive. Saves money so more can be spent on plants😃
