Pruning Sambuccas confusa

the flowers in my bushes will soon be over and I can prune.  The bushes are far too big now I just don’t know how hard I can be. I would like them to be more ball shaped
at the moment they are about 4ft high and probably the same width and strangling a Rosa rugosa!
anyone done this?

You can see why they need pruned, the little box plants need to breathe

I don't recognise the plant name, which one are you asking about?

Is this Sarcococca Confusa? I can't see it in the photo. If you need to prune them back, you can do that now. But, this shrub wants to grow big. Trying to contain it to less than 4 ft might be tough. There are smaller versions like Hookeriana and Ruscifolia. The leaves and form are much smaller and probably more suited to what you want them to do.
