I've just found a pair of lily beetles, doing what lily beetles do, on a penstemon in the middle of the garden ... they are now 'ex lily beetles'  >:)

We've not got any lilies in the garden this year .... having a few years without them as after my accident last summer I wasn't able to get out there and squidge so they decimated the lilies ... presumably this pair was just some of last year's progeny.

Anyone else seen any yet?

Thought I saw one this afternoon. Squishing fingers at the ready... but turned out to be a strangely elongated ladybird :D

Warning to all ladybirds - be fat and round like you should be. I may not be wearing my specs next time!! :D :
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

I picked one off a tulip this morning. You know your garden is behind when the lily beetles appear before any sign of a lily. They are just sitting waiting for those nice tender new shoots to appear😩

Oh no, it is the one animal that makes me dread going into the garden. I think I would prefer a few wildebeest frankly. :/

I’m like that with vine weevil can’t bear the little perfectly clean little blighters. I have to pick them out of plant pots with tweezers. Even with gloves on.

  • I also hate vine weevils! They destroyed lots of my plants/flowers last year as I only learned what they were after asking on this site, I have only ever had lily beetle once, hopefully they will all stay away this year

I found one a few days ago. It was frozen solid!
  • I've killed ten lily bugs over the last two days.

Found 3 on one Asiatic Lilly today but not on any other. It's a shame as they aren't an unattractive insect unlike slugs whose appearance is shameful

I found one so far on crown imperial fritillaria while out slug hunting by touch light.
