clematis

Hi guys please see attached picture. Do i need to cut back my clematis, it seems very woody//gappy.



Im going to plant it into the bed to grow up the fence.

    I think your clematis is a honeysuckle

    I'd say yes, it'll be a lot happier in the ground.
    Prepare the hole with added garden compost if the soil is a bit needy,and give a feed with something like fish/blood/bone and water it in well.

  • I would just add,get something for it to climb other than through the fence.Mine got a few tendrils through and managed to split the fencing.It just needs keeping an eye on!make it do what you want not what it wants!😁

    Some fine galvanised wire across the fence would help it to spread and have something to latch on to.
