Plant ID please!

Found this plant growing in scrub at my father in laws, could someone I'D it for me.  It was about waist high and had a woody stem about an inch thick.  Many thanks in advance!

    That's what I was trying to think of Nut ... related to malva aren't they?

  • I've just looked up Lavatera arborea and I think it's the same. It just looked like a really odd little tree in the middle of a field.  Thanks for your help!
