Rushfields in Sussex (North of Brighton) is an independent, with probably the best restaurant/cafe of any plant centre. Lovely, family owned, part of a farm, great farm shop. They also have a converted barn for B&B (with a wood stove). Near the South Downs Way.

Clockhouse Nursery in Enfield doesn't have a cafe of its own, but Forty Hall is directly across the road and does great cake and has beautiful grounds, with a farm and farm shop - run by Capel Manor. Lakes, woodland. Clockhouse is doubtlessly the best and largest nursery in North London / within the M25 to the north.

Highfield Garden centre in Whitminster (Glos), does a lovely pot of tea! I don't drink coffee and find that tea just seems to be provided as an afterthought following the lattes, cappucinos etc. It's nice to find somewhere that takes a bit more trouble than just chucking a teabag in a pot. And the cakes aren't bad either.  :)

Being something of a sconnoisseur I find their fruit scones to be very dry and too spicey.  Try to cut them and they tend to crumble.  Nice coffee though - I do like it quite strong.
  • Gates near Oakham (Leicestershire) lovely family run garden centre, Good Breakfasts by the log fire in winter or on the verander in summer.

Horticentre - New Rd, Overton, Wakefield WF4 4RG ....has a stunning cafe ( The Seed Room) and just can't recommend it enough, the chefs there are persistently great, price is good, coffee is good...and actually the nursery is always worth a trip.  this cafe is busy all year, regardless of climate.

  • The Duchy Garden Centre in Lostwithiel, Cornwall has a lovely restaurant with good service and good food. Beautiful open log fire and sofas in the winter!

The St. Austell Garden Centre on the A390, just after Par, has an attractive tea room. Fairly basic menu but reasonable in price and quantity.
