Frogs on allotment

hi everyone

i wanted to get some advice from you good people and will be succinct .

I have taken over an allotment and started clearing it today.

the previous tenant has used truck goods covers that are pulled back when loading / unloading but have been over the land for some time.

these have collected pools of water and have found quite a lot of frog spawn ( and some frogs).

My question is 2 fold:

1) Are frogs beneficial to a veg / fruit allotment?

2) if so what environment do I need to transfer too as never had to deal with this situation before .

any advice really appreciated.

regards

Frogs are definitely a good thing on an allotment as they eat slugs and similar things.
Is there a shallow pond nearby, preferably without ducks, that you could transfer the spawn to?  Preferably a quiet shallow edge with some pondweed around.

    Hi dove

    thanks for the reply.

thats great I will keep them . I was quite surprised to see the spawn on the plastic sheeting above the soil !

no there isn’t anything, tho the allotment runs on a slight decline and the bottom is a bit water logged which was going to be the very last escavation as it were .

im not sure whether to put the spawn in a bucket, or try to make a mini pond or something .

blimey I thought the main issues were going to be weeding and clearning not making a pond as well haha.

A wildlife pond on an allotment is a real benefit ... if you put wildlife pond into the search tool above you'll find lots of information.
