I have recently planted 150 plug plants in new compost, because it is too cold outside to leave them and I have no greenhouse, they are in the house on every `bright' surface available! There are now horrid tiny flies crawling all over the pots, flying in the air everywhere, massing in the windows, how can I get rid of them?

    They're probably fungus gnats.
    Not sure what you can do to rid them from your home though

    I find the vacuum cleaner very handy to collect them up from the windows. If you do it often enough you can reduce the numbers fast. Just wait a few moments for them to regroup, then go in again.
    But don't let the nozzle near your plants!

    I sympathise with you. I had this problem with some cyclamen that I was trying to nurse back to health from their supermarket torture. In the end I just put them outside, opened the window for a while and used bug spray.

    I know you don't have a greenhouse, but could you buy a couple of large see through storage boxes and put them outside, covering with fleece or a blanket at night?

    I would definately want the source out of the house.
