Having worked years ago in a specialist cactus nursery in N.Yorkshire , I often despair at the lack of knowledge regarding cacti . These are highly evolved plants brilliantly
adapted to their particular 'niche' in nature , be they barren Andean mountainsides or fairly moist high altitude 'meadows' , growing alongside grasses and other herbaceous species .
Forget the typical 'cowboy-film' scenarios , these are a long way from the truth .
The hideous orange cactus is a chlorophyll-less form of Gymnocalycium mihanovichii , the true form of which is an olive-green solitary species forming colonies beneath the shade of deciduous trees . Rainfall is infrequent , but sufficient for survival .
The green stock plant is a species of Hylocereus ;cheap and very readily propagated for the nursery trade ; it is also very prone to rot .
As mother goose says , exchange or get rid and purchase a 'real' cactus .
Maybe do a bit of research into their cultivation and get years of enjoyment from these unusual and deserving plants .
  • @Paul B3 It was my mistake that I bought it without learning about it & I feel very bad about it. Next time I will buy it after researching. Thankyou so much about the information. :)
